National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week

Reducing the stigma of mental health disorders has always been an interest of mine. As I progressed through my undergraduate career in child psychology, I started to notice how mental health is often overlooked in the youth population. We often see the bully, the child who tosses items, and the child who can’t pay attention in class, as “troubled children” and sometimes only address the observed behaviors but not the underlying “why.” Perhaps these children suffer from low self-esteem, come from a broken home, only feel sadness, or want to be a “good child” but lack the role models or guidance to do so.
During the month of May, posts will look at basic treatment strategies for the anxious child, strategies for the behavioral child, and Yoga Calm® techniques.
